Microsoft has released Windows 8, and there is a lot to know. There is
also a lot that's still unknown. Please call us if you have any
questions PRIOR to taking the plunge.
Some questions people are asking:
Q - Can I still get Windows 7 after Windows 8 is released.
A - You cannot... but we can! We have channels available to us in the
industry and can purchase a Windows 7 machine for you for at least the
next 6 months, probably much longer.
Q - What is the difference between Windows 8 RT and Windows 8 Professional (Pro)?
A - Windows 8 RT will ONLY run applications designed for Windows 8. NONE of your old applications will work. Ever!
Q - Is there an UPGRADE available to bring Windows 7 to Windows 8? And how much is it?
A - The UPGRADE for Windows 8 is $40. DO NOT attempt to perform this
upgrade without a great backup of your machine and data. Talk to us
about this if you are thinking about it... but read the next question
before even thinking about it.
Q - Is it worth upgrading or buying a new machine with 8?
A - At the moment, we say no to both. Windows 8, from what we have
seen, is a wonderful OS for smart phones and tablets, but falls
extremely short for laptops and desktops. It is also very early on, so
most manufacturers still don't have drivers available (think of items
like your printers, digital cameras and cell phones not connecting to
the computer any longer, not to mention many software packages)
As we get a chance to really play with it in the coming weeks, we'll
have much more information, but for now, sit tight and stick with what
you've got.
